I made an interesting chicken soup yesterday. Some of my customer friends are looking for low carb dishes, so there are no noodles, rice or potatoes in this soup. But there are plenty of leeks, mushrooms, carrots and celery. I seasoned it with Ras el Hanout which is a Morrocan spice blend that contains saffron, rose petals, grains of paradise and other spices. I ate some and sold some yesterday, but I have a pint left if anyone wants to try it.
People are talking about my ham salad and chicken salad in a good way. Give a call or stop in and try something yummy today. 804.892.7588 Breakfast, Lunch or Supper:

Good morning from Willows Bend Farm Kitchen! For the most part, our "What's Cooking Tonight?" has been kind of a bust. Originally, many folks showed interest in taking a turn in the kitchen to showcase their special dish. Only one person has done that since we opened in July.
There have also been very few orders for dinner anyway. So, we will still be open until 7pm and you can order off the regular menu of soup, sandwiches or breakfast items, but if you want a full dinner meal you need to special order it. I am still happy to provide evening meals for board meetings, or family dinners, special occasions or picnics, just let me know as far in advance as possible so I can gather ingredients and block off the afternoon to cook. Speaking of taking time to cook, there were lots of folks who wanted to help in the kitchen in exchange for meals and other products we carry. That hasn't panned out either, so for the most part, it is just me in the kitchen, with Sandy helping during the lunch rush in between deliveries. If my regular customer friends can order early in the day, this will help me group items together for prepping to save time. I want to serve meals freshly prepared, not out of plastic baggies. Thanks for the opportunity to serve you delicious, home made food made with real, quality ingredients. I appreciate each person who eats my food. Feel the love in every bite! Call 804.892.7588 Immunity Boost Chicken Noodle Soup is ready today. The homemade stock is made with an array of healthful herbs, spices, mushrooms, bones vegetables and chicken. Then strained and carrots, onions, celery, garlic, mushrooms, egg noodles and the chicken picked carefully from the bones is added back in. This soup takes 2 days to make, but is so nourishing it is worth it! Buy it by the pint, or quart, or as part of a meal.
I also made some more White Bean Chicken Chili that was requested as a family style meal last night. This family got a quart and a half of chili, a salad big enough for 3 and a box of cut fruit. The cost was $27 plus tax. Good wholesome food! The blackboard in the picture tells how many servings are left of a particular item. All but the Chicken Noodle Soup and the White Chili are frozen. So if you need them hot, give us time to reheat on the stove, or take frozen with a dollar discount to reheat yourself. Thanks. 804.892.7588 Breakfast, Lunch or Supper:

The Cold Plate got rave reviews yesterday. I made a new Coleslaw with pumpkin and sunflower seeds and craisins that my taste testers enjoyed. I am making another batch of Chicken Soup to boost the immunity. Already, the sniffles are going around. Hemp seed kernels can be added to salads upon request. Highly nutritious! 804.892.7588.

What's on my mind, and I daresay most everyone else's this day is what the impact of this impending Hurricane Florence will be. Pray without ceasing folks. So many people in harm's way.
While we all prepare for the storm, Willows Bend Farm Kitchen will still be preparing food. Our steel arch building, anchored strongly in concrete is built to withstand heavy winds. We taped over where the sky lights are because in wind driven rain we do get some water coming in from somewhere. But even if the tarp goes, all we should be dealing with is mopping up some water as it accumulates. We have 2 portable generators arriving tomorrow that will keep our well pump and our refrigerator and freezer going. We cook on a gas stove. So we will continue to provide meals and coffee and tea as best we can. Free coffee or tea and a snack at least, for all linemen or first responders. Swedish Meatballs with Buttered Noodles and sauteed Zucchini and Yellow Squash is What's Cooking Tonight at Willows Bend Farm Kitchen. If there are left overs, that will be available for lunch tomorrow. Thank you for your support. Prayers for all in harm's way. Breakfast, Lunch or Supper:
